Port Washington, WI – After operating solely as a restaurant with a class B license for seven months, Inventors Brewpub of Port Washington, WI, has received permission to produce beer on site with the Brewpub Permit from the State of Wisconsin. This marks the first time in over 16 years that there is a legally operating brewery within the city. Housed in the Legion Hall, Inventors Brewpub leases from Van Els-Schanen American Legion Post #82. The Legion building is the last remaining building from the Old Port Brewing Co (formally, Port Washington Brewing Co and on the historic site of the 1847 Lakeside Brewery). With the exception of Prohibition, a brewery has operated on the site from 1847-1947, and now 71 years later will produce beer once again.
“Everything old is new again,” states Adam Draeger, the owner and head brewer of Inventors when referring to the brewing history of the building. The banquet hall was stylized after a German bierhall with a large reclaimed wood community table and two chandeliers made from used brandy barrels. Inventors Brewpub celebrates inventors and inventions of both historic and modern times. The names of the beers reflect inventors (Edison IPA and Sikorsky Imperial Stout) as well as local Port Washington heritage (SS Porter and Seven Hills Pale Ale). Other beer styles that will be part of the debut include a golden ale, hefeweizen, wee heavy, Berlinerweiss-style sour and a beer inspired by orange marmalade on toast.
The restaurant cuisine is American and Canadian with gourmet burgers and several types of poutine including Wisconsin Brat Poutine. Draeger plans to make craft sodas in the upcoming months after launching the beer line that will consist of 10-12 beers on draft. Craft beer fans can expect the first beers to be ready and available before the end of March.
